The Everest Three Passes Trek, also known as 3 High Passes Trekking, is a classic journey to Mount Everest in the Khumbu Region that involves crossing three high passes: Kongma La Pass, Renjo La Pass, and Cho La Pass. It is a complete Everest Round Trek that includes an adventure to the Everest Base Camp, three high passes, and finally to Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri in a single-circuit trek.

Embarking on a round-trip trek to Everest, the region that holds the honor of having the world’s highest mountain, is a source of pride for anyone. Mount Everest not only stands as the highest peak in the world but also as the benchmark for ultimate adventure and complete tranquility. A magnificent close-up view of the highest peak in the world from every angle is always a dream for travel enthusiasts and is a rare feat that comes once in a lifetime.

However, not everyone can complete this challenging Everest 3 Passes Trek. It requires a level of fitness, physical strength, and endurance capacity. We can consider this complete Everest High Passes Trek as the toughest and longest Everest trek in the Khumbu region of Nepal. Crossing over some of the world’s highest passes, such as Kongma La Pass (5335m), Renjo La Pass (5,465m), and Cho La Pass (5,420m), each standing over 5000m, is not an easy feat for anyone.

Most travelers consider Everest Three Pass Trekking an extreme adventure that is considered a dream trip for many. With this high-altitude hiking package, you hike over the three high passes that lie above five thousand meters in the Himalayas of Nepal. The trail is an opportunity to discover some unique gems in the Khumbu region of Nepal, including mountains, glaciers, icefalls, mountain valleys, Sherpa villages, people, their culture, and many more.

Three High Passes Trekking Supremacy

The three-pass trip is full of tough terrain and tough routes. It is a power package that comprises fun, adventure, challenge, and mountain views.

The hike to Everest’s three passes delivers a good punch of massive thrills and challenges to adrenaline seekers. They have a powerful motive to take a sneak peek into the hidden gem mountains that compels them to surrender in front of their majestic stature.

The challenging Everest High Three Passes Trek takes you to the vintage vistas, valleys, and enchanting unknown lands in Khumbu. Adding to the adventure, you can observe the breathtaking views of the main mountains of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam, along with several countless peaks. The views of the mountain peaks are more common than the availability of oxygen in the air, which is common in prime altitude areas.

The enchanting trek to Gokyo Lakes will take your breath away with its mesmerizing view of the Gokyo Valley. Spectacular vistas of snow-capped mountains, glaciers, and majestic mountains will enhance the Mount Everest Three Passes Trek. Likewise, a trip through ancient villages and interaction with locals is just another routine on this trip.

Besides, the Sherpa settlement has covered the Khumbu Region. So, the trip will also provide opportunities for you to visit old monasteries. You also get to hear the unique Sherpa stories and see the rich Sherpa lifestyle.

  • Truly Exceptional Trekking Experience with Heaven Himalayas

I rarely write public reviews, but our experience with Heaven Himalayas was so exceptional that I felt compelled to share it. My husband, 19-year-old daughter, and I recently travelled to Nepal and completed the Annapurna Base Camp Circuit trek — our first trek and first time in Nepal.

After doing extensive research comparing itineraries, inclusions, and costs, we chose Heaven Himalayas — and we’re so glad we did. From the very beginning, Ram was incredibly patient and responsive, answering all my pre-trip questions (and there were many!) about everything from sleeping bags and e-sims to mosquito spray.
When we arrived in Nepal, Ram personally greeted us at the airport and provided a thorough trek briefing. We were then introduced to our guide, Shankar, whose professionalism and warmth immediately put us at ease. He helped us catch an earlier flight to Pokhara, sorted all logistics smoothly, and introduced us to Porzo, our wonderful porter.

Throughout the trek, Shankar and Porzo took exceptional care of us. We always felt safe, supported, and comfortable to go at our own pace. Shankar handled everything — organising meals, giving us daily tips on what to expect and what to wear, and sharing his deep knowledge of the region and its culture. He’s a sincere, kind and genuine person. Porzo was also amazing; he made my family feel safe and looked after. He was always smiling, there to help and has a lovely presence.

This trip was incredibly special for our family. If you’re considering trekking in Nepal, I wholeheartedly recommend getting in touch with Heaven Himalayas. Ram and his team are professional, knowledgable, responsive, flexible, and genuinely dedicated to making your experience unforgettable.

  • Warmest recommendation to our guide

We are a couple from Denmark who have long wanted to go The Manaslu Circuit. In this connection, we reached out to one of our friends who recommended Prem. They had gone to Manaslu together a few years ago and he put us in touch. From the first contact Prem has been super professional and he has been very attentive to our needs and wishes for the trip. When we arrived in Kathmandu, Prem picked us up at the airport and walked us to the hotel. Our trip started on our 3rd holiday and everything was very organized and we felt completely safe throughout the trip. Prem guided us over Larke Pass in the best way, and we are incredibly happy to have shared such a great experience with him. In connection with our return journey, Prem came to our hotel and he accompanied us to the airport and wished us a safe journey.

Apart from organizing our trip to Manaslu, Prem has reached out and been extremely helpful throughout our 6 week journey.

We will thus give him our warmest recommendations!

  • Solo trekk to Annapurna Base Camp

I did the Annapurna Base Camp hike in mid-November, and Heaven Himalaya made the entire experience smooth and stress-free. Booking was easy, and their responses on WhatsApp were always prompt and helpful.

As a solo female traveler, I appreciated how well everything was organized. They helped me with gear selection, forex exchange, and every small detail. When I arrived in Kathmandu, all logistics were taken care of, including airport transfers and trail arrangements. I didn’t have to worry about a thing.

My guide, Surya, was amazing. With over 15 years of experience, he knew the trails inside out and ensured everything was taken care of. Nothing was too much trouble for him, and he addressed all my concerns with ease.

I finished the trail quicker than expected, and they were flexible enough to adjust my bookings and logistics without any hassle. Their willingness to accommodate changes made the trip even more enjoyable.

Price-wise, they’re in line with the market, but their response time and ability to customize based on individual needs really stood out.

Everest Three Passes Trek FAQs

1. General FAQ's

What is the Everest Three High Passes Trek?

The Everest Three High Passes Trek is one of the most adventurous trekking routes in the Everest region. It includes crossing three high-altitude mountain passes: Kongma La (5,535m), Cho La (5,420m), and Renjo La (5,360m). Along the way, you’ll also visit Everest Base Camp, Gokyo Lakes, and popular villages like Namche Bazaar and Tengboche.

How difficult is the Three Passes Trek?

This trek is considered challenging. It’s best suited for trekkers with previous high-altitude hiking experience or excellent physical fitness. The long distances, high elevations, and remote trails require stamina, preparation, and a strong mental attitude. But with the right mindset and the support of our experienced Heaven Himalaya team, it's absolutely achievable.

How long does the Everest Three Passes Trek take?

The trek typically takes 18 to 21 days, depending on your pace and acclimatization needs. At Heaven Himalaya, we design flexible itineraries that include rest days and contingency time for weather or altitude issues.

What makes the Three Passes Trek different from the regular Everest Base Camp trek?

While both treks include a visit to Everest Base Camp, the Three Passes Trek adds a thrilling loop that crosses three major mountain passes and connects with remote valleys like Gokyo and Thame. It offers 360-degree mountain views, fewer crowds, and a more complete Himalayan adventure.

Is acclimatization included in the Three Passes itinerary?

Yes, and it’s very important. Heaven Himalaya’s itineraries include multiple acclimatization days in places like Namche Bazaar and Dingboche. We also monitor your health daily to ensure safe altitude progression.

Can a beginner do the Everest Three Passes Trek?

It’s not recommended for complete beginners. While it’s possible with strong fitness and determination, we suggest gaining experience with a shorter trek first—like the classic Everest Base Camp or Annapurna Circuit—before attempting the Three Passes route.

What are the views like on the Three Passes Trek?

Unmatched! You’ll see some of the most iconic Himalayan peaks, including Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Ama Dablam, Cho Oyu, and countless others. The views from the passes, especially Renjo La and Gokyo Ri, are truly panoramic and less crowded than standard viewpoints.

Do I need special equipment for this trek?

While you don’t need technical climbing gear, you will need proper cold-weather trekking gear, including insulated jackets, quality hiking boots, gloves, and possibly microspikes for icy sections. We’ll provide you with a full packing list when you book with Heaven Himalaya.

What kind of accommodation is available on the route?

You'll stay in local teahouses along the way, which offer basic but comfortable rooms and meals. In the more remote areas (like near the passes), facilities can be limited, but our team ensures you're booked into the best available options.
