Are you dreaming of watching a Royal Bengal Tiger step out of the tall grass?
This tour takes you to Bardiya National Park, the largest protected area in Nepal's Terai lowlands. The journey starts in Kathmandu, but the real adventure begins when you land in Nepalgunj and drive through the lowlands to Thakurdwara, the gateway to the park.
From the jungle lodge you will spend five days in the field: morning and afternoon safaris, a full-day jeep safari, a guided jungle walk, and a waterhole hide session. Along the way you will explore the Karnali River floodplain, open grasslands and forest edges, and finish with a visit to a Tharu village.
This is not a luxury holiday. Mornings start at dawn, jeep tracks can be bumpy, and the lodge is comfortable but simple. Tigers are wild, and no operator can guarantee a sighting. What we offer is careful tracking, patient observation and enough days in the right habitat to give you a real chance.
You do not need to be a professional photographer. With expert naturalists beside you, any photographer with a telephoto lens and some patience can make the most of this trip.

Why Bardiya Is the Best Place for Tiger Photography in Nepal
Bardiya National Park is one of Nepal's most important protected areas for the Royal Bengal Tiger. Large, continuous areas of sal forest, grassland, river floodplain and wetland support a strong prey base of swamp deer, spotted deer and wild boar, so the landscape stays active throughout the day.
For photographers, the variety of settings is as valuable as the animals themselves. Open grasslands give clear views, sal forest and riverbanks make atmospheric, layered frames, and the soft light of early morning and late afternoon suits every habitat.
The park is also quieter than many better-known tiger destinations in South Asia. Fewer vehicles in many areas mean longer, calmer observation, with more time to study behaviour and no pressure from crowds.
Wildlife you may encounter includes:
Royal Bengal Tiger
One-horned Rhinoceros
Asian Elephant
Swamp Deer and Spotted Deer
Wild Boar and Golden Jackal
Gharial and Mugger Crocodile
Even when tigers are not visible, every safari offers worthwhile wildlife photography.
Best Spots for Tiger Photography in Bardiya
Karnali River Banks and Floodplain – Riverside tracks and open banks where tigers come to drink and cross.
Park Grasslands such as Baghaura and Lamkauli Phanta – Open habitat with good visibility and abundant prey.
Tals such as Khodau Tal and Dhanes Tal – Water sources that draw wildlife, especially in the drier months.
Babai River and Surrounding Forest – A mosaic of forest and riverbank suited to atmospheric images.
Waterhole Hide – A quiet, low-disturbance position, subject to availability.
Access depends on park regulations and conditions, and your guide chooses the best areas each day.
A Day in the Field: What to Expect
Our days follow the rhythm of the park. Safaris are timed for early morning and late afternoon, when temperatures are cooler and animals are most active, with a rest at the lodge through the midday heat.
On a typical day, you may look for:
Tigers crossing grassland or forest edges
Tigers resting in shaded areas
Wildlife drinking at rivers and waterholes
Rhinoceros in open habitat
Elephants moving through the forest
Deer and other prey species
Crocodiles and gharial along riverbanks
Our aim is not only to collect photographs, but to understand wildlife behaviour and create meaningful images while keeping a respectful distance.

9 days Bardiya Tiger Photography Tour Itinerary
Day 01 :Arrival in Kathmandu
When you land at Tribhuvan International Airport, someone from Heaven Himalaya will greet you and take you to your hotel. If the traffic is kind, the transfer is short. At the hotel, your guide will help you check in and answer any early questions about the days ahead.
After you freshen up, you can rest or take a gentle walk nearby to get a first feel for Kathmandu, its people, food and everyday life. There is no schedule to keep this afternoon, so take it at your own pace after the journey.
In the evening, join us for a welcome dinner with a traditional Nepali cultural performance. Afterwards, we will give you a detailed briefing on logistics, safety, park etiquette and equipment preparation, so you are fully ready before heading into the jungle.
Day's Highlight: A warm welcome to Nepal, with local food, music and a full briefing before the jungle.
Overnight stay in Kathmandu.
Day 02 :Fly to Nepalgunj and Drive to Bardiya
After breakfast, we transfer to the domestic airport for a scenic flight to Nepalgunj, which takes about an hour. From there, you will drive through the Terai lowlands to Thakurdwara, the main gateway to Bardiya National Park. The landscape changes along the way, from busy town streets to farmland, villages and the edge of the forest.
On arrival, you will check in at the jungle lodge and have time to settle in and relax after the journey. Later in the day, you can take a short nature walk around the lodge or visit a nearby Tharu village for a first look at local life.
In the evening, we will hold a briefing on wildlife tracking and photography techniques. Your guide will explain how the safaris work, what to expect from the vehicle, and how to prepare your gear for the early starts ahead.
Day's Highlight: Moving from the city into the Terai lowlands and your first look at the park's edge.
Overnight stay at the jungle lodge in Bardiya.
Day 03 :Orientation & Safari
Your first full day in the field begins with an early morning jeep safari. This is a chance to get familiar with the habitat, the quality of the light and the best shooting positions from the vehicle. Your naturalist will point out wildlife and show you how to position yourself and your camera for steady, well-framed shots.
After lunch and a rest at the lodge through the midday heat, the afternoon safari explores the grasslands and forest edges as wildlife becomes active again. This is a good time to practise with your telephoto lens and settle into the pace of the park, where patience matters as much as equipment.
In the evening, you will review the day's images with your guide, who can give feedback on settings and composition. Use the session to adjust your approach before the longer days ahead.
Day's Highlight: Settling into the rhythm of the park and your camera setup.
Overnight stay at the jungle lodge in Bardiya.
Day 04 :Full-Day Jeep Safari (Tiger Focus)
Set out at dawn with your naturalist and tracker for a full day in the park's core wildlife areas. Your guides will look for fresh pugmarks, listen for alarm calls from deer and langur, and read the landscape for signs that a tiger is near. Along the way, you can photograph rhinoceros, elephants, swamp deer and other wildlife.
Lunch is a picnic in the field, so there is no need to return to the lodge and lose valuable time. The day continues through grasslands and riverbanks until late afternoon, giving you the best chance of an encounter and plenty of time to wait quietly when there is something to watch.
Back at the lodge, you will have dinner followed by a photo review session. Tigers are wild and cannot be guaranteed, but a full day in the right habitat gives you your longest and best opportunity.
Day's Highlight: Your longest and best chance of a tiger encounter.
Overnight stay at the jungle lodge in Bardiya.
Day 05 :Jungle Walk and Waterhole Hide
At dawn, a guided jungle walk follows quiet forest trails, riverbeds and grassland edges. Moving on foot lets you notice details you would miss from a vehicle, such as sounds, smells and tracks. Your tracker will show you how to read pugmarks, scratch marks and other signs of recent animal movement.
After a midday rest at the lodge, you will spend the afternoon in a hide near a waterhole, where animals come to drink. The hide is a quiet, low-disturbance position, so wildlife can behave naturally while you wait, observe and photograph.
Walks and hide sessions depend on park regulations and availability, and your guide will choose the best option on the day. The evening is yours to relax and share the day's stories over dinner.
Day's Highlight: Learning to track on foot, then waiting quietly for wildlife to come to you.
Overnight stay at the jungle lodge in Bardiya.
Day 06 :A New Zone and the Karnali River
Start with an early safari in a different zone of the park, catching first light as predators and prey become active. A new area means new habitat, new views and a fresh chance of tiger activity, so your guides will plan the route around recent sightings and signs.
Later, you will explore the Karnali River floodplain, a key wildlife corridor where gharial and mugger crocodiles bask on the banks. Where available, a river excursion offers a fresh view of the landscape and a different angle for your photographs.
After a picnic lunch in the field, you will continue until the light softens and then return to the lodge. In the evening, you will review your images together and compare what you have captured across the different habitats.
Day's Highlight: New habitat, river wildlife and a different kind of light.
Overnight stay at the jungle lodge in Bardiya.
Day 07 :Final Safari and Tharu Village Visit
Spend the morning on a final tiger-focused safari, using everything you have learned over the past days about where to look and how to wait. Alternatively, you can choose to visit Khairapur on the park's outskirts to photograph blackbuck in golden grassland light.
In the afternoon, visit a nearby Tharu community to learn about their traditions and village life. The Tharu people have lived beside the forest for generations, and the visit is a chance to meet them and understand their connection to the park.
The evening is a relaxed last night at the lodge. Go through your best images, share stories from the week with your guide and fellow photographers, and enjoy a final dinner in the jungle.
Day's Highlight: One last chance for tigers, plus a meeting with the local Tharu community.
Overnight stay at the jungle lodge in Bardiya.
Day 08 :Drive to Nepalgunj and Fly to Kathmandu
Depending on flight timings, you may have a short wildlife activity in the morning before saying goodbye to the lodge. We then drive to Nepalgunj, which takes about 2-3 hours, and take the flight back to Kathmandu.
On arrival, we transfer you to your hotel, where you will have free time to shop, rest or sort through your photographs. The afternoon is flexible and gives you a chance to pick up souvenirs or simply recover from the journey.
In the evening, join us for a farewell dinner to celebrate the highlights of your trip. It is a good moment to look back on your best frames and sightings with your guide and the rest of the group.
Day's Highlight: A farewell dinner to look back on your best frames and sightings.
Overnight stay in Kathmandu.
Day 09 :Departure from Kathmandu
After breakfast, we transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport for your flight home. Our representative will make sure you are at the airport in good time and that your departure goes smoothly.
Depending on your flight time, there may be time for last-minute shopping or sightseeing in Kathmandu before you leave. We wish you a safe journey and lasting memories of your wildlife photography adventure in Nepal.
The itinerary may be adjusted for weather, park conditions, flight schedules and wildlife activity.

Excellent solo Nar Phu Valley Trek with Heaven Himalaya
Just completed the Nar Phu Valley Trek as a solo traveler and couldn't be happier with how it was organized. From the start, communication was clear. A proper pre-trip gear check meant I knew exactly what I needed and what the guide would provide. They arranged a sleeping bag and trekking poles for hire, which saved me carrying my own.Accommodation throughout felt genuine and welcoming rather than touristy, a real Nepalese experience rather than a tourist-trail one. Transport to and from the trailhead was reliable and comfortable. What really stood out was my guide Hari's ability to read my pace. Early on I struggled a bit with the altitude, and he slowed things right down without making it a big deal. Once I'd acclimatized, we picked up the pace significantly. Hari was genuinely flexible day to day depending on how I was feeling, rather than sticking rigidly to a fixed itinerary.I also picked up a stomach bug partway through the trek. Hari talked through the options with me calmly and…

Second time in Nepal with Heaven Himalaya
This is my second time in Nepal with Heaven Himalaya & I am writing this with gratitude & appreciation for my guide Hari, my porter Arun, as well as the entire team. This was meant to be my birthday trip, I had requested to summit EBC on the actual day of my birthday (29/5/2026), and i made it happen with the help & support of Hari and Arun.Hari has been very thoughtful and attentive throughout the trip, making sure to constantly ask/check if I’m feeling okay as we ascended to higher altitudes. As it got colder higher up on the mountains, Hari thoughtfully delivered hot water to my room every night to help me deal with the extremely cold nights. On my birthday itself, Hari also resourcefully brought a “Happy Birthday” candle which he got from Namche to the summit, and we created our own birthday “cake” using the candle and an apple. That was a very beautiful memory & amazing experience. As I was traveling alone as a female, Hari also did his best to find me the most comfortable accommodat…

EBC Hike in May 2026
Last month in May 2026, I did the Everest Base Camp hike with Heaven Himalaya, and it was absolutely amazing. From the start they made everything easy . My guide Bishal, which he said meant thulo in nepali was so helpful and patient; he knew everything about the trail and mountains and also made us laugh all the time. Our porter Krishna was a star! He carried our bags without complaining and always had a smile, telling us funny stories in the evenings. I don't know what we would have done without him.The trek itself was so hard but so worth it. The views are just mindblowing; waking up every morning to see the mountains covered in snow is something I will never forget. Bishal and Krishna made sure we were safe and happy all the way.Reaching Kala Patthar at sunrise was unreal, seeing Everest in the golden light was like a dream. Bishal and Krishna were there with us every step, cheering us on and making it so special.I would absolutely recommend Heaven Himalaya for everyone. They are no…

Exceptional Service and a Birthday to Remember
They say the mountains humble you, but what I didn't expect was how deeply the people of Nepal would touch my heart.Couldn't have asked for a better crew for our Everest Base Camp - Cho La Pass - Gokyo adventure. From day one, Shankar, Ganesh, Dawa, and Prince treated us with so much kindness, patience, and care that it never felt like we were just another hiking group to them. They became our family in the mountains. Our guide, Shankar, was exceptional. Calm, knowledgeable, dependable, and always looking out for us every step of the way. He knew the mountains like the back of his hand and made us feel safe even during the toughest parts of the trek. When weather conditions in Lukla became unpredictable and visibility was poor, he immediately took action and arranged a helicopter to Kathmandu so we wouldn't miss our international flights. In moments of stress, that level of leadership and quick thinking means everything. It was my birthday during the trek, so I felt incredibly special wh…

Unforgettable First Trek to Annapurna Base Camp & Poon Hill
We had an amazing experience with Heaven Himalaya for our first trekking trip to Annapurna Base Camp and Poon Hill. We were actually recommended to them by a friend, and we’re incredibly thankful we chose to go with them. It was truly an unforgettable 2 weeks in Nepal. Our guide, Hari, was attentive, thoughtful, and always made sure we were comfortable and enjoying the journey. He was constantly on the ball, supporting us every step of the way and helping to adjust the itinerary whenever needed. Despite a few slight hiccups during the trip, he remained calm, flexible, and proactive in making arrangements to ensure everything went smoothly. Our porter, Anis, was also incredibly reliable and supportive throughout the trek. He consistently checked in on us and made sure our needs were always taken care of along the way.A special thank you as well to Ram, who was very helpful in coordinating everything behind the scenes and ensuring the trip ran smoothly from start to finish.Beyond the trek…

Truly Unforgettable!!!
My friend and I booked the 14 day Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake trek. The whole experience was amazing. Ram made it easy to alter the trip to our specific needs. We added flights, cut off 2 days of trekking, requested single rooms, and he quickly got us a quote and booked! Hari was our guide on the trek and he was fantastic! He attended to all our needs and safely guided us for the entire time. He did an excellent job of getting us the best rooms, served our meals every day, and did everything in his power to make sure us old men(63 and 74) made it over the Pass! Our porter, Denise, was equally impressive! I still don't know how he carried our bags for 10 days! Clear blue skies, endless views, majestic mountains, deep river valleys, friendly people, a truly unforgettable trip!!!

Why Travel with a Local Naturalist?
A knowledgeable local guide transforms a wildlife photography trip. Our naturalists understand the landscape, seasonal changes, animal behaviour, signs and park regulations. Instead of simply driving through the park, you learn how the ecosystem works and why different animals use particular habitats. Our approach blends photography, natural history, responsible tourism and local knowledge.
Responsible Tiger Photography
Animal welfare always comes before a photograph. We ask all guests to:
Maintain a safe and respectful distance from wildlife
Never feed or try to attract animals
Avoid loud noises and sudden movements
Follow park regulations and guide instructions
Limit disturbance around resting or feeding animals
Support responsible tourism and local conservation
A successful wildlife photograph captures the beauty and behaviour of an animal without disturbing it.
