Lobuche Village | Complete Guide on Accommodation

Lobuche Village is a small Sherpa settlement on the way to Everest Base Camp in Nepal. At an elevation of 4950 meters (16,210 ft.), Lobuche serves as the last stopover for accommodation before Gorakshep in the Everest region.

Above Dingboche, passing through Thukla pass, trekkers reach the village of Lobuche in the Khumbu region. Although it’s only 147 km to the east of Kathmandu, it takes around 6–8 days for travelers to reach the place, and that too after a nerve-shaking flight to Lukla.

The rural community shares its name with some other famous mountains, such as Lobuche Far East, Lobuche West, Lobuche East, and the Labuche Kang.

Lobuche Village is near the base of the Khumbu glacier and about 8.5 km away from Everest Base Camp. It is above the tree line. Thus, it doesn’t have any permanent settlements.

However, some wonderful lodges and guesthouses accommodate travelers visiting the Khumbu area. Since there are no roads for vehicles in Lobuche, people themselves or the yaks move supplies to such accommodation.

There are no agricultural fields; people there depend on tourism to earn their living. People have to pass through the village to trek to Everest Base Camp or climb any other peak. Henceforth, Lobuche village is busy 24/7 in the peak trekking seasons like spring and autumn in Nepal.

Climate and the best time to visit Lobuche Village.

The temperature in Lobuche village is cold throughout the year. The winter is snowy, with temperatures ranging from 0 °C to -20 °C. January is the coldest month, with an average temperature of -8 °C. March, April, and May are typical months, with temperatures ranging from 5 to -10 degrees Celsius.

Similarly, June, July, and August are the monsoon months in the Lobuche village, with temperatures hovering between 6°C and -6°C. The days are warm and the nights are freezing. Besides, during the fall, the temperature is around 5°C to -10°C.

Above all, spring (March, April, and May) and fall (September, October, and November) are the best times to visit Lobuche Village in Nepal. During these times of the year, the days are bright with clear skies. Therefore, you will have clear views of the mountains.

Accommodation in Lobuche: Hotels, lodges, and guesthouses

Lying in the corner of the mountains, Louche has decent accommodation facilities for trekkers and expedition groups. Here you will find basic hotels and tea houses owned by Sherpa families. The hotel rooms have two beds, tables, and a dustbin.

The beds have mattresses, pillows, and blankets. Apart from that, they provide good food and have decent dining halls. It doesn’t meet the mark of luxury, but they are worth it at that high altitude.

Some of the best hotels and guest houses in Lobuche include Oxygen Altitude Home, New EBC Guest House, Eco Lodge, National Park Hotel and Restaurant, Mother Earth House, Himalayan Eco Resort, etc.

Food and Beverages  

The food menu in Lobuche is like that in the low altitudes. It mainly has Dal Bhat, Spaghetti, momos, spring rolls, pizzas, Thukpa, potatoes, eggs, and bread.

For beverages, you will find hot water and fresh coffee and tea.

Mobile Internet and Wifi in Lobuche Village.

There’s no internet connectivity in Lobuche village. The best way to use the internet is to buy an Everest Link card. You can find it in every lodge or similar accommodations in EBC Trek.

Although you can use the internet with Everest Link, it’s slow and can only provide updates, send messages, post some photos, or visit web pages. Sometimes, because of the bad weather, it lags.

Do I need to book Lobuche hotels in advance?

Yes, it’s better to book accommodation in Lobuche in advance. It’s because the village has limited hotels and guest houses.

The National Park rules don’t allow the building of new hotels. Thus, during the peak travel seasons, you may not find any rooms. In such cases, you have to spend the night in the dining room.

Is there cellular network coverage in Lobuche?

No, the local cellular network doesn’t work well in Lobuche. Although it shows some signals, it’s not worth depending on it for communication. Instead, you can get an Everest Link Card.

Are there hot showers available in Lobuche Village?

Yes, there are facilities for hot showers in Lobuche Village. The options for hot showers are to buy a bucket of hot water or use the gas showers. But, you can’t find hot showers that run on electricity.

Can I charge my batteries in hotels in Lobuche?

Yes, the battery charging options are available in each guesthouse. There’s a common area for charging near the reception. Still, it will cost you some dollars to use the charging point.

Can I find western toilets in Lobuche?

Western toilets are rare above 4000 m on the Everest Base Camp route. Instead, there are squat toilets. The toilet room has a toilet pan, a bucket of water, and a dustbin.

As it’s a common toilet, it may not be to the standard of your cleanliness in the peak seasons. The area is still remote. So, it’s not better to complain about the toilets on the Everest Base Camp route.

Is there a bakery near Lobuche?

Yes, there’s a bakery in Lobuche. It’s probably the highest bakery at that high altitude. The bakery is right in front of the Hotel Mother Earth.

Are there luxury hotels in Lobuche?

Lobuche doesn’t have such luxurious stays as in the major cities. However, the rooms are clean and the restaurants have good food. The hotel rooms provide the best views of the mountains around.

Do I need permits to visit Lobuche Village in Nepal?

Yes, everyone outside of Nepal requires a permit to visit the Lobuche village. Those are the same as the permits for the Everest Base Camp Trek.
