Further, the panoramic landscape and the scenery, along with the different dimensional views of the massifs of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchre, and Manaslu ranges, add to the raw beauty of this enchanting journey. Trip Grade

Mardi Base Camp Trek falls into the difficulty category of moderate. Although it is a newer trek compared to the Annapurna Base Camp Trek, it is absolutely stunning. Well, there are a lot of factors that contribute to their difficulty. The duration of the trek, your financial constraints, the route you choose and many more affect any trek. The highest elevation that you will climb is 4500 m. And autumn and spring are the peak seasons for Mardi Gras hiking, just like with other treks.

The route to Mardi Himal Base Camp

The Short Mardi Himal Base Camp trek begins at Kande, following 1 hour of driving from Pokhara. At first, the path is acceptable, first gradually up, at that point somewhat more extreme, to Australian Camp (2060m)—about 60 minutes. Then we trek marginally downhill to Pothana (1950m) and back up again to Deurali (2100m). At first, it is very steep, leaving Forest Camp. However, before long, it gets less steep as you again get up on the ridge.

Again, we leave Low Camp in the wilderness. However, the trees soon get smaller and round. After an hour of trekking, we get into the wilderness and onto the open edge, with spectacular views of Machhapuchhre ahead and Annapurna South. From that point onward, we trek down to Siding through Low Camp. From Siding, we drive back to Pokhara.

This is a short, week-long trekking journey to the Mardi Himal Base Camp. However, if you have 2 more vacation days, you can choose Mardi Himal Trek.

  • Truly Exceptional Trekking Experience with Heaven Himalayas

I rarely write public reviews, but our experience with Heaven Himalayas was so exceptional that I felt compelled to share it. My husband, 19-year-old daughter, and I recently travelled to Nepal and completed the Annapurna Base Camp Circuit trek — our first trek and first time in Nepal.

After doing extensive research comparing itineraries, inclusions, and costs, we chose Heaven Himalayas — and we’re so glad we did. From the very beginning, Ram was incredibly patient and responsive, answering all my pre-trip questions (and there were many!) about everything from sleeping bags and e-sims to mosquito spray.
When we arrived in Nepal, Ram personally greeted us at the airport and provided a thorough trek briefing. We were then introduced to our guide, Shankar, whose professionalism and warmth immediately put us at ease. He helped us catch an earlier flight to Pokhara, sorted all logistics smoothly, and introduced us to Porzo, our wonderful porter.

Throughout the trek, Shankar and Porzo took exceptional care of us. We always felt safe, supported, and comfortable to go at our own pace. Shankar handled everything — organising meals, giving us daily tips on what to expect and what to wear, and sharing his deep knowledge of the region and its culture. He’s a sincere, kind and genuine person. Porzo was also amazing; he made my family feel safe and looked after. He was always smiling, there to help and has a lovely presence.

This trip was incredibly special for our family. If you’re considering trekking in Nepal, I wholeheartedly recommend getting in touch with Heaven Himalayas. Ram and his team are professional, knowledgable, responsive, flexible, and genuinely dedicated to making your experience unforgettable.

  • Warmest recommendation to our guide

We are a couple from Denmark who have long wanted to go The Manaslu Circuit. In this connection, we reached out to one of our friends who recommended Prem. They had gone to Manaslu together a few years ago and he put us in touch. From the first contact Prem has been super professional and he has been very attentive to our needs and wishes for the trip. When we arrived in Kathmandu, Prem picked us up at the airport and walked us to the hotel. Our trip started on our 3rd holiday and everything was very organized and we felt completely safe throughout the trip. Prem guided us over Larke Pass in the best way, and we are incredibly happy to have shared such a great experience with him. In connection with our return journey, Prem came to our hotel and he accompanied us to the airport and wished us a safe journey.

Apart from organizing our trip to Manaslu, Prem has reached out and been extremely helpful throughout our 6 week journey.

We will thus give him our warmest recommendations!

  • Solo trekk to Annapurna Base Camp

I did the Annapurna Base Camp hike in mid-November, and Heaven Himalaya made the entire experience smooth and stress-free. Booking was easy, and their responses on WhatsApp were always prompt and helpful.

As a solo female traveler, I appreciated how well everything was organized. They helped me with gear selection, forex exchange, and every small detail. When I arrived in Kathmandu, all logistics were taken care of, including airport transfers and trail arrangements. I didn’t have to worry about a thing.

My guide, Surya, was amazing. With over 15 years of experience, he knew the trails inside out and ensured everything was taken care of. Nothing was too much trouble for him, and he addressed all my concerns with ease.

I finished the trail quicker than expected, and they were flexible enough to adjust my bookings and logistics without any hassle. Their willingness to accommodate changes made the trip even more enjoyable.

Price-wise, they’re in line with the market, but their response time and ability to customize based on individual needs really stood out.

Short Mardi Base Camp Trek FAQs

1. GENERAL FAQs

Where is the Mardi Himal Trek located, and what makes it special?

The Mardi Himal Trek is located in the Annapurna region of Nepal, just east of the popular Annapurna Base Camp trail. What makes this trek unique is its peaceful, less-crowded path combined with stunning Himalayan views. Along the route, you’ll walk through rhododendron forests, charming local villages, and high alpine ridgelines with close-up views of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli. It’s a perfect choice for those looking for a scenic trekking experience away from the busy routes.

How difficult is the Mardi Himal Trek? Is it suitable for beginners?

The Mardi Himal Trek is considered a moderate trek and is suitable for beginners who are reasonably fit. You’ll be walking around 5 to 6 hours a day on trails that include both ascents and descents. You don’t need previous trekking experience, but preparing with regular walking or light hikes before your trip can help. With a positive mindset and basic fitness, many first-time trekkers find Mardi Himal both manageable and rewarding.

What is the highest altitude on the trek, and should I worry about altitude sickness?

The highest point on the Mardi Himal Trek is Mardi Himal Base Camp, which sits at approximately 4,500 meters (14,764 feet). While it’s lower than many other high-altitude treks in Nepal, it’s still important to be mindful of altitude sickness. A gradual ascent, staying hydrated, and taking it slow are key to proper acclimatization. Our trekking itineraries are designed with these principles in mind to keep you safe and comfortable along the way.

How long does the Mardi Himal Trek take?

The Mardi Himal Trek typically takes about 5 to 7 days, depending on where you start and how much time you want to spend exploring. A common itinerary runs 7 days round trip from Kathmandu, or around 5 days if you begin and end in Pokhara. There are also shorter, more intensive options for those on a tight schedule. The trek is flexible and can be customized to match your fitness level and interests.

What is the best time of year to do the Mardi Himal Trek?

The best time to trek Mardi Himal is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. In autumn, you can expect clear skies, mild temperatures, and excellent mountain views. Spring is equally popular for its warmer weather and blooming rhododendron forests that light up the trail with red and pink flowers. While trekking in winter is possible, expect colder temperatures and possible snowfall. The monsoon season (June to August) is generally avoided due to heavy rain, muddy trails, and limited visibility.

What kind of accommodation and food can I expect on the Mardi Himal Trek?

This is a classic “teahouse trek,” which means you’ll be staying in local lodges along the route. Accommodation is basic but clean, usually with simple rooms and shared bathrooms. Meals are filling and designed to keep your energy up. Dal Bhat — a traditional Nepali dish of rice, lentils, and vegetables — is a staple, but most teahouses also serve other options like noodles, soups, pasta, and eggs. It’s comfort food in the mountains, and it gets the job done.

Do I need to hire a guide and porter for the Mardi Himal Trek?

While it’s possible to trek independently, hiring a licensed guide is highly recommended — especially if it’s your first trek in Nepal. A guide provides local knowledge, ensures your safety, and enhances your experience overall. Porters can carry your main bag, leaving you free to enjoy the trail with just a light daypack. At Heaven Himalaya, we offer experienced, certified guides and porters who know the region well and are committed to your safety and satisfaction.

What permits are required for the Mardi Himal Trek?

To trek in the Annapurna region, you’ll need two permits:

  • Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)
  • Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) Card

These permits are mandatory for all trekkers and help support conservation and infrastructure in the area. If you book your trek with Heaven Himalaya, we take care of all the necessary permits and paperwork, so you can focus on the adventure.

How much does the Mardi Himal Trek cost?

The cost of the Mardi Himal Trek depends on several factors, such as the number of trekking days, the size of your group, and the services included (guide, porter, meals, accommodation, transport, etc.). At Heaven Himalaya, we offer transparent, competitive pricing with no hidden fees. Get in touch with us for a custom quote based on your travel preferences and group size.

What should I pack for the Mardi Himal Trek?

Packing smart can make a big difference on your trek. Here's a basic list of essentials:

Clothing: Layering is key. Bring moisture-wicking base layers, a warm fleece or down jacket, and a waterproof outer shell.

Footwear: Durable, broken-in trekking boots with ankle support are essential.

Gear: A small daypack, trekking poles, headlamp, reusable water bottle, and water purification tablets.
Personal items: Sunscreen, sunglasses, lip balm, a sun hat, toiletries, and any required medications.
We provide a detailed packing list to all our clients to help you prepare for the journey.

Is there Wi-Fi and electricity on the trail?

Yes, but availability varies. Most teahouses at lower elevations offer Wi-Fi and charging facilities for a small fee. However, as you gain altitude, these services become less reliable. We recommend carrying a portable power bank and getting a local SIM card (NTC or Ncell) if you want better network coverage. But remember — sometimes it’s best to unplug and enjoy the mountains.
