overview-iconLangtang and Gosaikunda Lake Trek Overview

The Langtang Gosaikunda Trek is a rewarding journey through Nepal’s villages, glacial lakes, and mountains.

The Himalayan glory, hospitable people, and the beauty of Gosaikunda Lake are what make the route unique and worth walking on.

Trekking in Gosaikunda Lake via Langtang Valley offers a chance to explore an untouched environment that is culturally rich. So, travelers get a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the region, influenced by the Tibetan Buddhist religion.

The hiking route combines the Langtang Valley Trek with a walk to Gosaikunda Lake, a popular site for Hindu pilgrims. Therefore, Gosaikunda trekking is not just popular for its natural magnificence but also its religious significance.

Langtang Gosaikunda Trek Itinerary Start and End Locations

The Langtang Gosaikunda trekking itinerary begins with a quick drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, the actual commencement point of the trek. From here, you follow a trail that goes through villages and ascends upstream of the Langtang River, along with the forests, to Bamboo.

After a few days in the pristine environment, the trail climbs up through the forests of bamboo, rhododendron, and oak to Lama Hotel. Then, leaving Lama Hotel, you follow a trail that leads us to Langtang village via Ghoda Tabela. At Ghoda Tabela, you can catch your first glimpse of Langtang Lirung, a prominent peak in the region.

Finally, the last uphill walk will take you to Langtang village, where more stunning views welcome you.

The settlement is a traditional village that treasures the ancient Tamang culture and the Tibetan Buddhist religion. There’s a yak cheese factory in the village that is trendy for pure yak cheese. Thus, you also get to explore the factory and taste the cheese. If you are further interested, you can also purchase the cheese and take it back home as a souvenir from Nepal’s Langtang region.

After a night at the village, you hike up to Kyanjin Ri, from where you can relish the magnificence of Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, and various other mountains in the Langtang range.

Proceeding with the Langtang Gosaikunda Lake Trek, we return to the Lama Hotel and head towards Thulo Syabru. Traversing through the lush forested area, we climb uphill to Thulo Syabru and ascend towards Sing Gompa. As we move ahead, a clear and close view of Ganesh Himal unfolds right before us.

Finally, making our way along the classic trail in Langtang Gosaikunda Trek, we open up to Gosaikunda Lake, a holy lake for Hindu pilgrims. The lake is located in a spectacular location against the backdrop of the beautiful Himalayas at an altitude of 4,380 meters (14,370 feet).

Most people believe that Gosaikunda was formed when Lord Shiva pierced the mountain with his trident to quench his thirst caused by swallowing poison.

We leave for Dhunche and head back to Kathmandu after enjoying our time around Gosaikunda Lake and taking a holy dip in it.

Why Langtang Gosaikunda Trek?

The Langtang Gosaikunda Trek is one of the most rewarding treks in the Langtang region of Nepal. The tour offers some spectacular views of snow-clad mountains, including Langtang Lirung, Yala Peak, Dorje Lakpa, and many other peaks in the Langtang range.

Additionally, you get to visit Gosaikunda Lake, a sacred lake that Lord Shiva is believed to have created. The lake lies in a magnificent location with stunning views of mountains all around.

Likewise, you get to explore Kyanjin Gompa in the valley and hike up to Kyanjin Ri for 360-degree views of the mountains in the Langtang range. The Ri also offers a picturesque view of the entire Langtang Valley.

Wandering around Langtang village is itself an insightful experience. You can feel the influence of the Tibetan Buddhist religion in the town. The area is full of Buddhist symbols like prayer flags, Mani walls, stupas, and monasteries. Also, Tamang mostly inhabited the village, giving visitors a glimpse into their culture, traditions, and practices.

During the Gosainkunda trek via Langtang Valley, one can taste the local cuisine and pure yak cheese manufactured in the village’s yak factory. Also, Langtang National Park is another attraction of the tour. The park is a shelter for various species of flora, fauna, birds, and animals.

Trekking with Professionalism and Trust

It was another superb trek with Heaven Himalaya over 21 days in Tsum Valley and Manaslu Circuit Treks. This was my 2nd trekking with Heaven Himalaya after the Annapurna Circuit and EBC. Throughout the trekking, my guide Shankar was truly professional in his guidance and was very resourceful when we had to adapt our original plan due to rain and snowfall. Shankar was in constant communication with Heaven Himalaya HQ at Kathmandu to ensure all is well at all times. This helped mitigate the many risks that comes with trekking in Nepal. Like my previous guides Dipak and Bishal, Shankar helped me to cross some very difficult tracks due to rain and soft ground. If I'm back in Nepal for trekking, I'll choose Heaven Himalaya, again.

Trek to EBC

Booking and travelling experience with heaven Himalaya is perfect. They approached professionally planning was flexible. The guide Bishal and assistant Ayush were perfect and pushing us in right direction to complete the 12 day EBC trek successfully. I would fully recommend this agency for your trekking experience at Himalayas Only cautious note I would add is the nepal infrastructure travel to and fro Kathmandu to Lukla is very basic and might sometimes disappoint due to weather.

Private Tour – Simply the best with unmatchable service!

I had the pleasure of organising a custom solo private tour from Kathmandu to Pokhara, trekking through the ABC/Poon Hill segments, back to Pokhara and then onto Chitwan for a short safari tour and then finally back to Kathmandu. Even before my trip started (and deposit paid), I was extremely impressed with the customer service provided by Ramhari by answering all the questions I had (and there were many), as well as doing so promptly (everything within 12 hours if it wasn’t just a couple of hours). My guide Ramesh and porter were fantastic, but the entire trip team from Ramhari to the drivers that were organised from my Pokhara to Chitwan and Kathmandu parts were all outstanding, this is truly a premium group with an extremely knowledgable and talented team. My guide, Ramesh, had decades of experience, and along with Ramhari who was also a guide, it truly was on display through the contacts and network they had to how they conducted themselves, I felt I was in the best hands, and I was. I felt I was always in the best accomodation in the hotel range, with the best views. Thankfully my trip was drama free with the recent weather/natural disasters, but I would be confident with Heaven Himalaya to ensure my safety and any changes/contingencies were effectively communicated and organised. I am so impressed with the service overall, and I hope to return back to Nepal soon and engage with Heaven Himalaya again for future tours/treks.

EXCEPTIONAL TRAVEL ADVENTURE IN THE HIMALAYAS

I took a chance on a local Nepalese agency called Heaven Himalaya to organize my trip to Nepal and it’s absolutely the best choice I made. I chose Heaven Himalaya as they offered the customized private treks that I was looking for (note that they also provide group treks). Plus, all the reviews I read about this agency were 5 star. I’m incredibly happy to have found them! And I WOULD GIVE HEAVEN HIMALAYA A 6 STAR review if I could. After weeks of trying to work with North American agencies for itineraries and costings of my dream trip, waiting days and weeks for an answer, I finally contacted Heaven Himalaya and they responded literally overnight with all the information and pricing that I wanted. And all throughout the planning process, the Heaven Himalaya team provided incredibly fast, helpful and truly personalized service. And even better, the experience they created for us during our trip was exceptional. We were taken care of from the moment Sanjib, one of the two founding brothers, met us at the airport with beautiful marigold garlands to the moment they dropped us back at the airport for our flight home. We visited Upper Mustang and then the Sagarmatha region, with some days in Kathmandu. Everything was customized to exactly what I wanted to do, they arranged everything including transportation, accommodation and meals. Even last minute add-on activities we wanted to do while in Kathmandu were arranged perfectly. An extra special thanks to Sanjib for making sure, all along the way, that our trip went so smoothly, and for the extra adventures we wanted to do in Kathmandu. And our wonderful guides Shankar (in Upper Mustang) and Bichal (in Sagarmatha) made our trip so special. At two points during our trip, we had some weather that created transport problems but the Heaven Himalaya team and their fantastic connections with the local transport companies found solutions to the problems that I’m sure no other agency would be able to do. I VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND HEAVEN HIMALAYA. You will not regret it if you choose to visit Nepal. And I will definitely use them again the next time we visit Nepal.

Extraordinary Experiences

Thanks to our tour guide Mr Ram. We are very well taken care of, because of his good care and services. My children aged 9, 15, 17 years old didn't have many hiking experiences, but we made it up to Poonhill 3218m. Which is a great milestone in their growing path.

Spectacular experience in the Himalayas

The 12-day private EBC trek was a spectacular experience with Heaven Himalaya, from start to finish. All aspects were extraordinary, from initial contact to booking, onsite arrangements and attention to all details during the trek. The kind and supportive interaction in both Kathmandu and on the trek with the extraordinary Guide Bishal and Porter Aayush, were what made us successfully complete the EBC trek. They lended a hand when needed, arranged for the best available accommodations, and were never more than a few feet away to provide any assistance, answer questions or provide guidance. A first-class experience and highly recommended. We will definitely engage them again for our next trip to Nepal!
